Transferring a Domain into FD
We are currently not able to accept transfers in. We are working on this and hope
to be able to offer it in future.
Transferring a Domain out of FD
You can do everything that you need to do to transfer your domain out from within
the domain management section of your FD online
account.
Some domains have a locking mechanism. You will need to unlock them before transferring.
This applies to .COM, .NET, .ORG, .INFO, BIZ, .NAME, .MOBI, .CO, .ME, .TV and .WS.
Any other domains do not have a locking mechanism and therefore cannot be unlocked.
The option will not be presented to you if it is not possible. Please be aware that
when transferring to other registrars, it is common for them to routinely ask for
the domain to be unlocked irrespective of whether that applies to this type of domain.
If it is possible to unlock a domain, you will need to do this within the
domain management section of your FD online account.
Some domains have an authorisation/auth/transfer code which needs to be given in
order to initiate a transfer. This applies to .COM, .NET, .ORG, .INFO, .BIZ, .NAME,
.MOBI, .ME, .TV and .WS. Any other domains do not have an authorisation code and
therefore we cannot provide one. The option will not be presented to you if it is
not possible. Please be aware that when transferring to other registrars, it is
common for them to routinely ask for the authorisation code irrespective of whether
that applies to this type of domain. If it is possible to get an authorisation code,
you will need to do this within the domain management
section of your FD online account. This will email the authorisation code to the
registered owner of the domain name.
Some registrars will send an email to the administrative contact to confirm authorisation
to take control of a domain name. We routinely set the administrative contact to
the same as the owner, so we will have used the email address that we were given
at the time when the domain registration order was taken. If you are not sure then
you can check who the contacts are for
a domain name as long as you are not using the contact privacy option.
Transferring UK Domains
UK domains do not have either a locking mechanism or an authorisation code. Instead,
they use an IPS tag. Your new registrar will give you their IPS tag and you can
update this within the domain management section
of your FD online account.
