Somebody asked me for my opinion on the news that many people are in for a tax bombshell from HMRC. My first reply was that if you owe it, you owe it and tax has to be paid, but for the average working person it is of course news they could do without. One hopes that HMRC will be flexible, as after all, it is their computer that caused the error. The good news is that at last we seem to have a computer system that is fit for purpose and will increase the tax yield. How on earth HMRC will find a way to motivate their staff to run it properly is another matter entirely.
