The #IMF give a sound report without shuddering

So , the beak is in town. The head of the IMF has delivered her report on austerity UK style. Let’s hope the class laggards in southern Europe sit up and take notice of the class swot across the channel. It is interesting to note that she is suggesting looser monetary policy and of course it is on the government’s wish list and possibly the bank of England’s.Wouldn’t it be interesting if UK were to act on her advice. Imagine the Labour party jumping on the Tories if they did, and if they did not, they would criticise them for ignoring expert advice. She also mentioned that it has kept UK’s reputation intact and this is something I am very keen on. Reputation is everything, everywhere – and often sacrificed for short term gain. Whatever happens the reaction to cutting rates or not will be cover-up for the true story, which is that the hard medicine is working and had Labour been in power Mme Lagardewould be shuddering and we’d be bust.

Cheaper #policing

The local police regularly park a patrol car on the forecourt of the petrol station 100 yards away from my office. I assume this is to deter naughty people from stealing petrol and whether or not it works I don’t know. No doubt the Freedom of Information Act will reveal the statistics. Last week another patrol car was parked in the bus stop outside my office and sat there for a few days. Yesterday I emailed local plod and asked if they were missing a panda car, because surely they wouldn’t have 2 deterrents within 100 yards. Aside from the usual “out of office back whenever” standard reply, the only possible clue that it was read by somebody came in the form of the car vanishing 2 hours later. Not only that but the one in the petrol station also vanished. So the big question is whether crime is about to spiral out of control in the 100 yard stretch of Sedgley Village. Old ladies are terrified and children are paralysed by fear.

Signs and posts

No doubt I am not the only person to have noticed the proliferation of official signs on the roadside , probably a result of being over-regulated and wrapped in cotton wool. I suppose I can accept that but why on earth does each new sign require it’s own post ? We have lamp-posts every 100 yards or so and they are surely ideal candidates for many signs. The pole makers must be laughing all the way to the bank.

France and Greece thumb their noses at Germany

Europe continues to burn while the main actors party away into the night. So if the Greek have no more austerity what will they riot about? It means they will have to go back to doing nothing and being paid for it by the state who cannot afford it. So where is the money coming from? Not from Frau Merkel that’s for sure.Print more money – not allowed by the EU rules. Leave the Euro – the only chance. For a Eurosceptic like me that is great news. Anything that weakens the EU has to be welcome. We should seize the moment and have an EU or no-EU referendum now. As for the French, well they are going to be their usual bloody-minded and stubborn selves doing what suits them and cocking a snook at the EU rules. At their government has people to tax to pay for it and it looks like it is not a good time to be moderately wealthy in France. Makes our wretched pathetic “has been” country seem tolerable doesn’t it?
